Last night I painted my first yugioh card. I will continue to paint them. I actually had fun doing it. I also was working on my rain forest looking girl. I don't think she will be finished tonight since I need to do laundry but she should be finished tomorrow. I think I will post some of the sculptures I've been working on as examples for my students too. So more pictures to come soon.

I painted this last night. I wanted to make a Kawasaki inspired girl. I've never seen one of her characters be black but I wanted mine to be. I also didn't use muted colors like she does but it still was inspired by the facial structure and the repeated simple elements.

Flowerhead Pt2

I couldn't sleep last night after watching Mushi-shi because it is so beautiful and keeps me thinking. I was practicing drawing the faces I saw on the screen and decided to make a painting based off of a sketch. I also wanted to practice using a bit more natural colors.

I am not sure why I love looking at flowers so much. But this painting makes me smile.

Learning how to use photoshop like I would use paint is tricky. I find I want my results to come out too fast rather than spending more than an hour on one drawing.

I feel a little like I've abandoned this blog. I'm not sure if anyone even reads it.

Here are some teacher examples I've done for my students.
I think I need to up my level of work for the students. I see them inspired all the time. There are a few that have used the ninja in so many art projects that it's exciting to see what they come up with next. I try to leave the projects somewhat open ended so they have some freedom in making decisions.

I realized I still don't have a niche for what I want to do with art. Sure I like to paint. When I went to the museum and saw the contemporary art, I started doubting myself as a professional artist. So I'm moving forward. Going to spend more time making high quality paintings. My last painting turned out better than I imagined, possibly because I spent so much time on it. Now I have to go back and fix all the other ones I just tried to whip up for the sake of having some art.

Flowerhead

I wanted to mix anquity and Murakami. Not quite there yet with the evolution of my idea but I will post my next painting as I draw closer to what I want to accomplish so I can move onto my next idea. I'll post sketches of other ideas I have.

Going to be sewing soon too. I bought beads from the International Gem and Jewelry show, which I will be using for pillows and a table runner. I want my apartment to look like a luxurious hotel but with my budget and creativity infused with it.

In my spare I'm bored and watching television time, I'm crocheting a mindless blanket to use for the winter.

Ok so my theory is to teach students in a manner to make them interested in art. Cartoons are a love for them so I taught them about artists with the technique and used cartoons as the fuel for the fire.

So my boyfriend has love for superheroes and comics. What boy doesn't really. He asked me a while ago to make a series for him of 4 favorite heroes. Finally the mission is complete. He pushed me asking for more and more details. I found images of the heroes and made painted reproductions of them with my own interpretations in some areas.

I realized that I like art that is not always the normal favorite. Sarah Vaughan is a lesser known jazz artist to Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald but I like her just the same if not more than them both. Anywho, acrylic on canvas 18x24.

I've been wanting to make something large scale with crochet but I hadn't fully managed to do something until after finishing school. I wanted something that would spark my creativity. There was a teacher I had who said, "You don't wait to become inspired to do something. You work until you are inspired to something"... and you just keep working. So what I've been doing is a series of projects that will fuel my next real project about there only being one race, which is human. My quilt is for my brother and is about his favorite video games to play growing up. I want to try and include as many characters as possible while still retaining a good composition.

I also did a video using my bunny imposters that I made awhile ago. I think I'm going to put on my list a spoof Art:21 video because I think I want to have a more real take on how I do my art now. It might change my perspective on where I evolved professionally.

So my idea to make shrinky dink jewelry turned into a total bust because I was unsure of whether the paper was ink jet printer compatible.... definitely not .... so after sitting there contemplating what to do with the disasters I decided to make transfers with polymer clay.... They worked! And now I'm in love... this necklace is based of a doodle that I did a long time ago.

Talking about Art

Talking about art has a different feeling that making art. It feels sometimes like the idea can be misunderstood by pointing out a selection of particular facts. This is a teacher example I made for my sixth grade lesson for making our own version of Murray Tinkelman's Mechanimals. I loved this idea because the students were able to combine two seperate things that they loved or at least were interested in.

I haven't been thinking about art for myself that isn't dessert or breakfast related besides my stuff for my printmaking class but that was mostly dessert too. I'm working on a little thing right now about cake batter... and my neopolitan scarf is coming along nicely.

I can't wait to use color on this... it should be exciting... I can't seem to figure out what to send my art pen pal yet... I think I will send him sketches.

Polymer Fun

So I've been inspired but also feeling a little poor. I wanted to order all this Dessert Food Jewelry online but I don't have the money to throw out. Designing with my friend Amy, we came up with some cute creations. I made a Ribbon Holic inspired charm for a necklace, a cupcake charm, and a cupcake ring.

I'm also working on some painting but with little luck. I really need to put a sketchbook in my purse to save all the drawings i do instead of putting them on random pieces of paper.

I'm working on my first mostly successful knitted work. A extra wide scarf. It's very plain right now but I'm adding embellishments.

Life is so crazy. I'm nervous about all the things that are approaching but I need to move with my art.

Crochet Season Approaching

Break out the hooks and needles and prepare to be amazed.. I'm going to try things I'd never done before and hopefully fall in love with all the products. I've been doing a lot of sewing... My dresses turned into skirts but I'm still happy with them.. I still have so many things I want to accomplish before school starts.... Sigh... I'll just continue my work through school... Who knows what kind of job I could get anyway.

So it's been a long while since I've updated. My life has been a little crazy but who's isn't. I've done some art over the past few weeks but not as much as I'd like. I made a couple hats and did some drawings and am sewing some dresses and skirts.

I don't know what's up with my updating. It's not really like I've been slacking. I've been working at paying the bills jobs and out some. I should be marketing and stuff when I go out... like having people put up flyers and stuff about my art. Anywho... I've been sort of on a sewing kick. I think some of my fashion designer friends are rubbing off on me. So I broke out my sewing machine but alas my crazy self decided I was too excited to draft some patterns with just woven fabrics... big mistake. I did make a hello kitty skirt but that will be posted when I actually take good photos. I think I'm going to buy some jersey fabric to make some dresses to go out to clubs in. Sounds like I wouldn't need to spend money every couple weeks to buy new clothes to go out in...

This is a watercolor and chalk pastel work that I did thinking that I would surprise my friend with a painting of her daughter. I'm not sure I'm happy with it though. I feel like it's missing something. Not everything is a true keeper but I do like it enough to talk about it. Both times I've seen Kammie she's been sleeping so it made sense that she'd be sleeping in the painting.

My book that I was writing and illustrating is finished and I did some small things to make the time go somewhat. I don't want to feel like I'm slacking with my work. I should make a summer sketchbook.

There was this shirt I wanted to get from Delias... but I could not see myself spending 25 on that shirt... but I did splice the image and pattern it so there was a new background for a self portrait I did.

My brother performed last night with his friends but I was too excited to take any pictures... I was so proud of him... This has me ready to design a series specifically for b-boys. It made me sad a little bit that some of the footwork they were doing wasn't as appreciated as I feel it should have been because usually the crowd is looking for freezes and just breakin' not the dancing. Sigh. But they were so awesome. Groove CREW!

The New Series

(Work in Progress, Diva)

So I love hip-hop. There is no clear definition of what hip-hop means to me but I might be able to try and explain it with this new series I'm working on,... I think I want some realism in it too. Animated but also real. Seeing my brother and his friends breaking and bboying/bgirling clinched the idea. I used be really into learning graf writing so I want to incorporate some of that... Also, since my dad used to dj, it would be nice to put that in too. This is going to be fun. So much to plan and sketch out,... maybe I'll make some garments to compliment the paintings.

I was so glad to be this close to the roots... I learned the hard way that my phone sucks for taking pictures at night... lol... But at least I was like 1-2 people away from the stage.. But I missed my brother dancing during performance... meh. He was dancing during Immortal Technique's performance, which I did get to see. I think I want to use the move he did in a painting. It was a spin on his elbow, a move I had not previously seen him do before. So going to the show and seeing that was even better than being in front for The Roots.

I went to some clubs this weekend when Dj Soulstar was spinning.. It was definitely good times. I had not seen digital turntables before then. Yesterday, I saw the original kind of turntables and it was a completely different feel besides the fact that the other dj who I think is BBoy Sean John was playing older styles of music. Sean John was playing a strictly bboy style, I'm pretty sure I heard some stuff playing in the Battle of the Year listings though... hmmm...

Different cultures

I was talking with my friend Frankie last night, discussing how I should add in even more cultures into my art since I have so many friends that have different backgrounds. I think this would be an interesting and needed venture. I guess I'll start practicing today... the painting from yesterday is almost finished.. there is some touching up and additions I want to add to finalize it. Pictures with my real camera soon.

It wasn't that long ago but it was long enough for me to say flashback.. I should post some of my stuff from high school. That would be interesting. This was from my design class where I met some of my greatest friends.

Anyway. I'll be posting stuff eventually once I really make the time to paint.

Printmaking

So I was given this assignment for class to make a printed pattern using one block of this material where I had to carve.. Let me tell you I was nervous. I was doing cutting and carving... lol. That usually doesn't go over well with me, at least the carving part. I still to this day cannot cut meat without almost hurting myself. This wasn't so bad. I only stabbed myself once. Not knowing what I wanted to make, it ended up looking like a tree. I think I went a little print happy. The girl next to me did this awesome gradient effect that I wanted to try. Mine was pretty successful. I saved a blank block so I could try this project again under my own terms.

I spent some time today just sketching out ideas for the possible next series. I'm not sure why women seem to be a focal point in much of my art. I came up with this image which I think would make a lovely painting... I think I want her to be more pale with brown, red, and black hair.. I haven't decided much else on it though.

So I've been doing a lot of work for school and not so much for myself.. pfffftt.. lol. Well, anyway. I made this mask for my media and techniques class.. I think it's pretty cool. It's done with papier mache and other materials. I should be taking better photos once it's completely finished,.. But I'm excited to have the chance to work on the last painting in my music series.. It's going to be about Tempo. The idea is fully sketched out in my head.. I just have to actually paint it this week. So exciting,....

I wasn't really inspired today... but I was last night. The Project Runway Finale left me with so many ideas that I'm disappointed at myself for not sitting with my sketchbook. I did see some student work on pbs.org that was inspiring... I think I like the color combination of cardboard, white, and black.... so i think i want to try some drawings next week on notebook paper sized cardboard... it might end-up being more fun than the Artist Trading Cards..

Artist Trading Cards

I was really impressed by the Artist Trading Cards I saw when I did a class observation at a local school so I wanted to try them out myself. I think with a little more practice and ingenuity I can do fabulous things... It's something I can do when I don't have many materials or a lot of space. These are a couple that I did... When I was walking to class from the library, I was inspired by the wispy trees.. I want to do some kind of big art project involving trees.

The photoshoot I did last week turned out awesome. I'm excited to see how my first editorial is going to look it might be how I get a great portfolio... The main aspect of my photography that I need to change is just using higher resolution photos...

pop art love

I got these awesome paint markers that I love using. This work was a mixture of paint markers, acrylic paint and lots of medium. I'm really pleased with how the work came out but it kind of feels that the man in the painting reminds me of someone I know even though I thought the image came from my head. I should post of a picture of the painting sketches that I did. Soon to come are the pictures of the Artist Trading Cards that I've been working on. I still have many other works that need to be posted. I need more inspiration actually.

It's been a good while since I've updated this. I've done a lot of work since then. I've even sold something. I'm pleased. Now all I need to do is get my work published. I'm considering doing the Artscape contest. I just haven't figured out what I want to do yet. I also am setting up an etsy. So much work in the mix right now and lots of art parties to attend.

Lost Romance

People fall in love all the time. My friend told me once that people only truly fall in love 3 times in their life. This a painting about a love that was lost but in the final moment of being physically together there were sparks. It's about enjoying what you have while you have it.

Who doesn't love flowers? They seem to be one of the prettier aspects of organic life. I love to paint single sets of flowers. It captures the essence of the beauty more than when it's surrounded by the rest of life. Serene and peaceful.

Candy Art

I loved to collect candy wrappers and use them for different type of art projects. My art usually has some organic qualities whether it be through the application of materials or the color palette. I also like the idea of recycling materials. With the commericalism of today, it seems like some art is taken for granted. I look to the Pop Art movement sometimes to get inspiration.
